What is it?

Na Píobairí Uilleann is a formal organization dedicated to perpetuating the playing, production, and maintenance of the Uilleann pipes. Over the years it has expanded and enriched its activities to include all aspects of learning and teaching the instrument. Their website is the portal through which international members may access their information and content.

What does it do?

The organizers produce numerous Irish Music workshops, classes, lectures, and multi-media throughout the year. One can become a member and gain access to on-line membership privileges that include video and other resources designed to enrich one’s learning the pipes and Irish Traditional Music in general. There is also excellent free video content available at the web site as well.

What can I use it for?

Even if you’re not a player of the pipes, using the society’s on-line resources can assist one’s depth of understanding of the music and the culture that nurtures it.
I remind myself often that the playing of the music on the pipes has shaped the character and methods of playing the music, which in turn has influences the rhythmic elements of the music. The music being played on the pipes is where cuts, rolls, strikes, cranns, etc. originated as articulations in the music. While some content is academic, all content is expository, highly informative, and entertaining.
